Hello, friends! Today’s post is dedicated to those who may be grappling with the weight of anxiety and depression, seeking a glimmer of hope in tough times.
Lately, I’ve noticed something interesting: many millennials, myself included, find solace in the familiar embrace of watching Friends during mealtime, a twenty-minute sanctuary of sorts. However, I’ve found that this routine isn’t as effective as it used to be. My anxiety levels have skyrocketed, and those dreaded panic attacks have made a comeback. While there are only a few tricks and coping mechanisms I’ve discovered (which I might share in another post), today, I want to focus on TV shows that have provided me with some much-needed relief. Now, let me preface this by saying I’m not a doctor or an expert, this is just my personal blog, and I’m simply sharing my experiences and views.
Being an animal lover and someone who enjoys exploring new places (albeit from the safety of my own home), I’ve found comfort in a variety of documentaries, both old classics and new, lighthearted travel series.
I hope you’ll discover something here that resonates with you. So, without further ado, let’s dive in.
The Reluctant Traveler
Comedy | Travel
The Reluctant Traveler follows the delightful Eugene Levy as he explores the world, staying in lavish hotels but giving us a down-to-earth glimpse of them. It’s not about flaunting wealth; instead, Eugene’s focus is on uncovering the beauty in simplicity. His genuine interest in cultural differences shines through as he tries new foods and experiences, even if he sometimes struggles. And honestly, that just adds to his charm!
But what really makes The Reluctant Traveler shine is its heart. From meeting fascinating locals to soaking in breathtaking landscapes, every moment feels like a genuine adventure. The documentary is beautifully crafted, with stunning visuals and a storyline that keeps you hooked till the very end. And the best part? It’s not just about travel, it’s about finding inspiration and embracing new experiences. Watching Eugene’s transformation from a hesitant traveler to someone hungry for more adventures is truly uplifting. After watching, you’ll feel like packing your bags and setting off on your own journey of discovery.
Eugene Levy is a gem, he’s not afraid to poke fun at himself, joking that Europeans mainly recognize him from American Pie, which, let’s face it, is pretty true! But to many of us, he’ll forever be Jim’s dad, the epitome of the sweet, caring father who embarrasses you in front of your friends, but means well. However, his talent extends far beyond that iconic role, he’s graced us with memorable performances in countless movies and TV shows. And now, at the age of 77, he’s proven himself to be not just a great actor and comedian, but also a fantastic host.
Conan O’Brien Must Go
Comedy | Travel
Conan O’Brien Must Go is a comedy rollercoaster you don’t want to miss! Conan O’Brien, the master of awkward humor, brings his quirky charisma to every moment, leaving you in stitches from start to finish. With just four episodes, it’s short but oh-so-sweet. Imagine this: Conan kicks off each episode with a snippet from his Conan O’Brien Needs a Fan podcast, where he chats with unsuspecting fans. Then, brace yourself for the ultimate surprise, he shows up at their doorstep, uninvited! From Norway to Thailand, Argentina to Ireland, Conan takes us on a whirlwind tour, “helping” fans in his own uproarious way.
Conan’s humor and genuine curiosity elevate this travel series to a whole new level. His ability to blend comedy with heartfelt moments creates an unforgettable viewing experience. But what truly makes Conan O’Brien Must Go stand out is its unique blend of genres. It’s not just your typical travel show, it’s a refreshing mix of stand-up comedy and roast-style humor. With Conan at the helm, you’re guaranteed to laugh until your cheeks hurt and maybe even shed a tear or two from laughing so hard. So, if you’re in the mood for something truly original and hilariously entertaining, this is the show for you. Get ready to embark on a journey filled with laughter, surprises, and unforgettable moments that’ll leave you craving more.
I loved the final episode in Ireland the most. It gets a bit emotional when Conan explores his family roots, back to where his great-grandfather lived before coming to the USA. But it’s also super fun when Conan gets a small role, just two lines! in a local Irish show where they speak the native language. It’s hilarious!
The Mating Game (2021)
Documentary
The Mating Game is an absolute heart-melter! If you grew up watching the legendary Sir David Attenborough’s documentaries, you’ll be in awe that he’s still delivering the best even at almost 100 years old. What a remarkable man, dedicating his life to his craft. I’m a huge fan! This series spans five episodes, each diving into how animals of all kinds navigate the complexities of mating and relationships. And let me tell you, animal relationships are total goals! Watching them interact and bond is not only eye-opening but also a bit humbling for us humans. We really don’t deserve these amazing creatures, do we?
Sir David Attenborough, with his trademark humor and unmatched knowledge, takes us on a journey through the fascinating world of animal courtship. It’s a delightful blend of education and entertainment that’s sure to captivate any animal lover. So if you’re looking for a show that’s both heartwarming and enlightening, look no further than The Mating Game. Trust me, you won’t be able to resist falling in love with nature all over again.
Somebody Feed Phil
Comedy | Travel | Cooking
Somebody Feed Phil on Netflix it’s seriously a game-changer! If you’re into food, travel, and soaking up some awesome history and culture, this show is your jam. Phil Rosenthal, the host, is not your typical TV guy, he’s like that cool uncle you wish you had, funny, sweet, and totally down-to-earth. And can we talk about his family? The way he shares his adventures with them, especially his heart-melting bond with his parents, it’s just heartwarming.
What sets Somebody Feed Phil apart from other travel and food shows is its infectious positivity. Phil’s goofy yet sincere approach to exploring different cultures and cuisines is both entertaining and enlightening. Watching him immerse himself in new experiences makes you want to break out of your comfort zone and embrace life with open arms. This show isn’t just about food, it’s about living boldly, loving deeply, and finding joy in the simple pleasures. So if you’re craving something uplifting and inspiring, give Somebody Feed Phil a taste. It’s a recipe for happiness that will leave you feeling nourished in more ways than one. Trust me, it’s a total mood-lifter that’ll leave you grinning from ear to ear.
