So, get ready with some snacks, get comfy, and let’s begin!
Lost in Space
Sci-Fi | Family | Drama | Adventure
Lost in Space (2018) is a thrilling Netflix reboot of the original series from 1965! If you’re a fan of Sci-Fi, this is a must-watch. The series follows the Robinson family on a space exploration mission, showcasing not only the wonders of outer space but also the intricate dynamics within the family. One of the highlights is the relationship that young Will builds with the robot, which adds an extra layer of depth to the storyline. From start to finish, Lost in Space is an incredibly enjoyable ride that will keep you hooked.
Now, let’s delve into the captivating plot of the show. Set in a futuristic Earth where the survival of humanity hangs in the balance, the Robinson family embarks on a mission to colonize a distant planet. However, when their spacecraft veers off course and crashes onto an unknown alien planet, they must band together to navigate through perilous terrain and face unimaginable challenges. As they struggle to survive in this hostile environment, tensions rise within the family, but they also discover unexpected strengths and resilience within themselves. Along the way, they encounter mysterious creatures, treacherous landscapes, and other survivors, all while unraveling the secrets of the planet they now call home. With stunning visuals, gripping storytelling, and compelling characters, Lost in Space is a sci-fi adventure that will leave you eagerly anticipating each new episode.
Cobra Kai
Comedy | Drama | Action
Cobra Kai Let’s start from the beginning. It was 1984 when The Karate Kid movie hit cinemas. Daniel Larusso, played by Ralph Macchio, a kid who moved to California with his mom to start a new life, found himself in trouble with bullies. He met Mr. Miyagi, portrayed by Pat Morita, who taught him Karate. Daniel eventually won the Karate tournament, became the champion, won the girl, and triumphed over the bullies. The movie became a legend! And of course, there were two more films featuring the duo Daniel/Mr. Miyagi. Who would have thought that 34 years later, we’d see a TV show with Daniel and his former enemy, William Zabka’s Johnny Lawrence? Unfortunately, Pat Morita passed away a few years ago, and we deeply miss him.
Now, fast forward to the present, Cobra Kai brings us back into the world of Daniel and Johnny, but with a twist. The show explores how their lives have unfolded since their teenage rivalry, diving deep into themes of redemption, mentorship, and the complexities of adulthood. With a new generation of karate students, both Daniel and Johnny are faced with the challenges of their past while navigating the present-day conflicts. As the lines between hero and villain blur, Cobra Kai delivers an exhilarating blend of nostalgia and fresh storytelling that keeps viewers on the edge of their seats.
For those of us born in the 80s or around that time, how cool is it to watch the TV show and the movies with our kids? It’s like passing down a piece of our own childhood while creating new memories together.
The Fosters
Drama | Family
The Fosters is a show that truly resonated with me. It’s a powerhouse of emotions, tackling a wide range of topics from family issues to teen drama and important social issues, including LGBTQ+ representation and the dynamics of a mixed-race family. At its core, the series revolves around a lesbian couple who, after already having three kids, welcome two more into their lives, sparking a journey filled with love, challenges, and growth. The portrayal of a modern family facing real-life problems emphasizes the idea that family is built on love rather than DNA. If you’re drawn to family drama shows that delve deep into the complexities of relationships, The Fosters is a must-watch.
Now, let’s dive into the captivating plot of the show. Set in sunny California, The Fosters follows the lives of Stef and Lena, a loving couple who navigate the joys and struggles of raising a blended family. Alongside their biological son, they open their hearts and home to foster children, Callie and Mariana, whose arrival brings both joy and chaos. As the family learns to navigate the ups and downs of adolescence, they also confront issues of identity, acceptance, and belonging. Through heartwarming moments and tear-jerking revelations, The Fosters beautifully captures the essence of unconditional love and the power of resilience in the face of adversity. With its compelling storytelling and diverse cast of characters, this series is a heartfelt portrayal of the modern family experience.
If you want to continue following the lives of Callie and Mariana, there’s a spin-off series titled Good Trouble. In this series, we witness them navigate the challenges of adult life while still grappling with issues from their past. Along the way, familiar faces from The Fosters family make guest appearances, adding an extra layer of nostalgia and connection for fans.
Switched at birth
Drama | Family
Switched at Birth is a gem of a series that captivated me from start to finish. Each episode leaves you with food for thought, offering a small but impactful life lesson that resonates long after the credits roll. One particularly remarkable aspect is the episode featuring no sound at all, immersing viewers in the world of American Sign Language alongside Daphne, who is deaf. This innovative approach not only provides insight into Deaf culture but also serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of communication and understanding.
The series expertly weaves together themes of family secrets, teen drama, and self-discovery, creating a rich tapestry of interconnected storylines that keep you hooked from the very first episode. Amidst the drama and intrigue, the show explores the complexities of identity and belonging, as Bay and Daphne navigate the fallout of the life-altering revelation that they were switched at birth. As they grapple with the consequences of this discovery, they forge unlikely friendships, confront deep-seated prejudices, and ultimately learn what it means to truly belong.
With its well-written script, compelling characters, and thought-provoking plotlines, Switched at Birth is a masterclass in storytelling that offers something truly unique and unforgettable. Whether you’re drawn to family dramas or intrigued by the exploration of Deaf culture, this series delivers an immersive experience that will leave you both entertained and enlightened.
