So grab your snacks, settle in, and let’s dive into five more TV gems that are sure to make your lunch break a whole lot brighter!
The Bill Engvall Show
Comedy | Sitcom | Family
The Bill Engvall Show (2007) offers a delightful blend of family-friendly humor and heartwarming moments that make it a standout in the sitcom genre. Created by Bill Engvall, a talented stand-up comedian known for his sharp wit, the show revolves around the Pearson family, where the dynamics between the parents and their three vastly different children provide endless entertainment.
Now, let’s talk about the Pearson kids. They’re a riot! You’ve got this adorable teenage girl who’s just trying to navigate the crazy world of adolescence. Guess what? Before Jennifer Lawrence was winning Oscars, she was right there, part of this lovable TV family! Then there’s the little brother, the brainiac of the bunch, always spouting off facts and figures that’ll make you chuckle. And let’s not forget about the other brother, the complete opposite of a brain, but his antics will have you laughing till your sides hurt.
What I love most about The Bill Engvall Show is that it’s clean comedy through and through. No crass jokes or inappropriate content here, just good ol’ fashioned fun that the whole family can enjoy together.
The ideal pick-me-up during a lunch break or a way to decompress from the stresses of the workday. It’s light, it’s funny, and it’s just what the doctor ordered for a good dose of laughter and relaxation!
Call Your Mother
Comedy | Sitcom
Call Your Mother (2021), starring the talented Kyra Sedgwick, had all the ingredients for a hit sitcom. As a divorced mom of two adult children, Sedgwick’s character’s decision to uproot her life and move closer to her kids promised plenty of laughs and heartfelt moments. And boy, did it deliver! The show captured the essence of family dynamics in a way that felt genuine and relatable, reminiscent of the beloved 90’s sitcoms we still cherish today.
What set Call Your Mother apart was its refreshing approach to comedy. Instead of relying on absurd or over-the-top situations, the humor stemmed from the everyday challenges and joys of family life. Sedgwick’s character navigated the ups and downs of parenting adult children with wit and charm, making us laugh and tug at our heartstrings in equal measure. It’s a shame that the show only lasted for one season, as Sedgwick’s portrayal and the endearing storyline had so much potential. Nevertheless, Call Your Mother left a lasting impression as a delightful sitcom that reminded us of the beauty in common family and relationship situations, all thanks to the talented Kyra Sedgwick.
ABC pulled the plug on Call Your Mother after just one season, leaving fans puzzled about the reasons behind the decision. Despite its premature ending, the show’s thirteen episodes provide ample material for a satisfying binge-watch session. With its blend of humor and heart, Call Your Mother offers relatable family dynamics that resonate with both parents experiencing empty nest syndrome and their grown children. Moreover, the sitcom skillfully addresses contemporary social issues with a light touch, providing a refreshing take on modern life!
Outmatched
Comedy | Family
Outmatched (2020) brings the comedic prowess of Jason Biggs, famous for his role in American Pie, to the small screen. Known for his knack for humor, Biggs adds a delightful touch to this family comedy. While the cast shines with their performances, the writing falls short at times. Despite this, the show offers a glimpse into the chaotic yet endearing world of parenting and everyday struggles. Set in South Jersey, the series follows a couple as they navigate the challenges of raising four kids, three of whom are certified geniuses. Though the writing could use some improvement, the premise is intriguing, making for an enjoyable watch filled with laughter and relatable moments.
Outmatched gives you this cool mix of family life and comedy that sets the stage for a fun storyline. Even though the writing isn’t always perfect, the show still serves up plenty of laughs and heart. Sure, the idea of a couple from South Jersey dealing with the ups and downs of parenting isn’t totally new, but throw in some super-smart kids, and things get interesting. So, even with its flaws, Outmatched is definitely worth checking out for a light-hearted and entertaining watch.
Young Rock
Comedy | Sitcom
Young Rock (2021) is a must-watch if you’re a fan of Dwayne The Rock Johnson. It’s like getting a peek behind the curtain of his life, but with a comedic twist. While many plot points are inspired by real events, it’s not a documentary, there’s plenty of fiction mixed in too. From his childhood to his college days and beyond, the show spans decades, giving us a nostalgic trip through the 70s, 80s, and 90s, which I totally dig.
The best part? The Rock isn’t afraid to poke fun at himself, adding a layer of self-deprecating humor that keeps things light and relatable. Each episode is a blend of funny moments, nostalgia, and even some practical life advice thrown in. I breezed through all three seasons and had a blast, I’m sure you will too! So if you’re in need of a good laugh and a trip down memory lane, Young Rock is the show for you.
Kevin Can Wait
Comedy
Kevin Can Wait (2016) is like comfort food for TV lovers. It stars Kevin James, who you might know from The King of Queens, playing a retired cop trying to adjust to family life. The show is packed with hilarious moments, mostly revolving around Kevin’s misadventures and the quirky characters in his life.
What sets Kevin Can Wait apart is its relatable humor and the chemistry between the cast members. It’s the kind of show you can kick back and enjoy without overthinking it. Sure, it might not be breaking any new ground in terms of sitcoms, but sometimes you just need something light and funny to unwind after a long day. So if you’re in the mood for some laughs and good vibes, give Kevin Can Wait a shot, you won’t be disappointed!
